Nurserymen, Landscapers, and Greenhouse Growers to Meet in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH---The South Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association (SCNLA) will hold its annual Trade Show and Seminar Program on February 7-9, 2002 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In addition, during the SCNLA Seminar Program and Trade Show, a seminar on Friday, February 8 on “Growing a Green Industry Business” will be held as well as the Annual Meeting of SC Greenhouse Growers Association (SCGGA). Also, on Saturday, February 9 of the SCNLA Seminar Program and Trade Show, the Certified Nursery Professional test will be offered.

The SCNLA Seminar Program will be held on Thursday, February 7, and the Trade Show will be open Friday and Saturday, February 8-9. At the SCNLA Seminar Program and Trade Show, Dr. Carl Whitcomb, Professor of Horticulture, teacher, researcher, and lecturer, will speak on the topics of “Weed Control for Field Grown Trees” and “Propagation by Cuttings.” Other speakers will include: Dr. Don Ham, Dr. Ted Whitwell, Dr. Bill Bauerle, and Dr. Steve Jeffers, all from Clemson University. In addition, Judy Sharpton, Growing Places Inc. marketing specialist, will provide information for retailers. Other topics to be discussed include: “Spanish Communication,” “Runoff Water Management,” “Risk Management,” and water related subjects. Following the General Session, there will be three concurrent educational sessions for landscapers, wholesalers, and retailers. More than 20 nursery and landscape related presentations will be given. On-site registration for the SCNLA Seminar Program which includes a Trade Show Badge is $55.

On Friday, February 8, 2002, an educational program on “Growing a Green Industry Business” will be held for those interested in starting a greenhouse, nursery or landscape business. The “Growing a Green Industry Business” program will include topics about “Taking Control of Your Business,” “Marketing 101,” and “Get It in Writing - Legal Considerations for Your Business.” A panel discussion with industry members will also be held, and representatives from the various regulatory agencies will also be available to answer questions. On-site registration for the “Growing a Green Industry Business” Seminar Program which includes a Trade Show Badge is $75.

Also, on Friday, February 8, 2002, the South Carolina Greenhouse Growers Association (SCGGA) will hold its Annual Winter Meeting. There will be a day full of seminars with a 2 hour break to visit the Trade Show. On-site registration fee for the SCGGA Winter Meeting which includes a Trade Show Badge is $30.

The 280 plus booth SCNLA Trade Show offers a wide variety of plant material, equipment, and supplies for the nursery, greenhouse and landscape industry. To attend the Trade Show only, the on-site fee is $15.

In addition to the myriad of programs to be offered during the three-day event, on Saturday, February 9, 2002, the Certified Nursery Professional test will be given. Pre-registration is required for the test.
