This atmosphere is damning to the citizens of this state and financially lucrative to some lifelong politicians. Legislators have what I call a Club for Power and Wealth and the people of our State know this fact. I believe many politicians have been elected and sent to Columbia with great intentions but soon realize that in order to survive and attain their goals, they have to join the "Club". As a member they are very careful not to point out questionable behavior of other Club members for to do so would cause them to be ostracized. My concern at this time seems to be the deteriorating highway infrastructure and the inability of the legislature to address the issue, without calling for a gas tax increase. Hugh Leatherman and Mike Wooten are two "Club" members that are knee deep in lining their pockets with DOT money. A conflict of interest is so obvious that a call for higher gas taxes stinks to high heaven. The I-73 construction project is a perfect example of cronyism. Both of these men mentioned above have a vested interest in spending DOT money on new road construction when we really need ROAD MAINTENANCE. Please resist raising our taxes because many, like myself, are on fixed incomes and higher gas taxes will hurt those who are already financially in the toilet! Thank You David Koffler.
