SUMTER AREA GRAIN PRODUCTION MEETINGS SCHEDULED

SUMTER---To assist them in their marketing efforts, all grain crop growers in Clarendon, Lee, and Sumter Counties are invited to attend back-to-back meetings on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, February 12 and February 13, 2002.

A Corn Production Update meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Compass Restaurant near Turbeville, SC. Dr. Charles Curtis, Clemson University Extenstion Commodity Marketing Specialist, will discuss the “Evolution of Southeastern Grain Markets from 1960-2000.” This will be a comprehensive discussion of the marketing situation and how it will affect marketing plans.

In addition, Dr. Curtis will lead a program on “Basic Commodity Marketing---how to use futures and options” on Wednesday, February 13 at 9 a.m. at the Barbecue Hut on Highway 15 South in Sumter. This program will be an opportunity to learn the basics of commodity futures and options.
