Good publicity, etc. 24.181.48.53 Governor Halley: This is Dr. Steve Hamblen of the Federation of American Scientists (fas.org) in Washington, D.C. (I live in the Upstate.) We are the NGO of the scientists and engineers of The Manhattan Project, created after WWII to promote national and international security following the first use of nuclear weaponry. More than 60 Science Nobel Laureates are on our board of sponsors. Starting with our assistance to Japan following the Fukushima disaster and the shuttering of their nuclear energy facilities, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is seeking advice from the US and the UK about how we work to promote regional economies via boosting energy industries. I will discuss the particulars as well as key topics, which are five in number, as we move forward. Since I live in the Upstate and am the Secretary-Treasurer of FAS, I have been asked to organize a two hour session here on Tuesday, February 9 at 9:00 a.m., followed by lunch. I am inviting key academic representatives (Clemson and maybe USC), industry representatives (Duke, GE, Fluor and others), state and local government, and commerce officials as well. Incidentally, I am also hosting a supper at Rick Erwin's Grill on Monday evening for all who might wish to meet, greet, and eat...well! Please let me know who all to contact from the your office or other state officials & agencies who could support this dialogue. I want our state to support this important and news worthy event. Yours, Steve
