Barbecue is main dish at inaugural



Gov. Mark Sanford announced the baker’s dozen of barbecue makers from around the state that will serve food at his second inaugural Jan. 10.

Sanford’s office says the vendors were chosen to represent the state’s four major barbecue styles — tomato based, mustard based, ketchup based and vinegar based.

• Doc’s Barbecue & Southern Buffet in Columbia

• Willy’s in Columbia

• Boss Hogg BBQ of Hopkins

• Farm Boy’s Barbecue of Chapin

• Shealy’s Bar-B-Que House of Batesburg-Leesville

LOWCOUNTRY

• BlackJack Barbecue in Charleston

• Sticky Fingers of Charleston

• Charleston Bay Gourmet of Mount Pleasant

• Po Pigs Bo-B-Q of Edisto Island

UPSTATE

• Henry’s Smokehouse of Greenville

• Brushy Creek BBQ of Easley

PEE DEE

• Schoolhouse BBQ of Scranton

Tickets will be $60 per person. Children younger than 12 get in free at the 6 p.m. event at the State Farmers Market Watermelon Shed.

Last month, Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer sent out a news release saying the event would cost $60 per family, but he said Thursday that was an error.
