Medicaid beneficiaries will have to prove U.S.
citizenship
The Associated
Press
The state agency that administers Medicaid is
urging people to start gathering documentation that will prove
their U.S. citizenship under new federal guidelines for
eligibility.
A new rule adopted as part of the Federal
Deficit Reduction Act requires any person seeking Medicaid
coverage to prove their U.S. citizenship. Medicare eligibility
already carries this requirement.
The new rule will
apply to anyone applying for or re-enrolling in Medicaid
beginning July 1.
To get the word out about the new
rules, the agency will hold public meetings in every county of
the state and send letters to current Medicaid
beneficiaries.
