School board chairwoman faces domestic violence charge

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - The chairwoman of the Spartanburg County School District 2 board has been charged with criminal domestic violence.

Connie Smith, 47, was arrested Tuesday after being accused of throwing gravel at her husband, Mike, while arguing about their pending divorce, according to the sheriff's office.

Mike Smith told deputies his wife grabbed a handful of gravel from their driveway and struck him in his face and body.

Connie Smith was released on a $1,000 signed bond.
