-- LOTTERY SPENDING
S.C. House Republicans developed a plan to restore $13.5 million in HOPE scholarship funding by tapping state Lottery Commission operating funds and reducing prize payouts slightly. Items and amounts proposed:


• K-5 reading, math, science, social studies programs -- $40 million

• Lottery LIFE scholarships -- $40 million

• Endowed chairs -- $30 million

• Tuition assistance at two-year institutions -- $27.8 million

• Education Accountability Act increase -- $23.5 million

• Technology at public four-year, two-year institutions and state tech schools -- $10 million

• Lottery HOPE scholarships ($2,500 for tuition and $150 for books) -- $6.3 million

• Lottery Palmetto Fellows --$5 million

• Lottery need-based grants -- $3 million

• S.C. State University research and technology grant -- $3 million

• Tuition grants -- $3 million

• National Guard -- $1.5 million

• State library, aid to county libraries -- $1.5 million

• Total -- $194.6 million
