The following is a listing of fun recipes for kids to try--with adult supervision of course!

 

Before you begin:

1. Ask your parents' or an adult's permission to use the kitchen and to help you.
2. Read the whole recipe before you begin.
3. Check to see that you have all the ingredients.
4. Wash and dry your hands.
5. Gather everything you will need before you start.
6. Follow the recipe exactly.
7. Always pick up a knife by the handle. BE CAREFUL!
8. Use a pot holder or oven mitt when picking up hot items.
9. Clean up everything and put it back in its place.
10. Make sure all appliances, oven, and stove dials are turned off.

 

Peanut-Buttery Waffles

1 waffle, cut into 4 pieces
2 teaspoons peanut butter
4 banana slices
Pinch of powdered sugar

Spread peanut butter on each waffle slice. Put two banana slices on top of the peanut butter. Sprinkle each piece with powdered sugar.

 

Peanut Snack Mix

1/4 cup peanuts
1/4 cup gummy candy
1/2 cup popcorn
1/4 cup round oat cereal

Put all ingredients into a plastic zip-close bag. Close the bag and shake to mix. Great for an after-school snack!

 

Banana Breakfast Booster

3 ripe bananas
3 cups cold milk
3 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Peel and carefully slice bananas. Put in blender container. Pour milk over banana slices. Put honey and vanilla in a blender. Put top on blender. Hold top with hand. Press BLEND button and let mix just until smooth and frothy. Carefully pour into glasses. Serve immediately.

 

Buttersotch Graham Squares

12 graham crackers
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Break each graham cracker in half. Place close together on 17 1/4 x 11 1/2 x 1" non-stick jelly roll pan. Place butter and brown sugar in a glass measuring cup. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Microwave on HIGH 1 minute, until butter is melted. Remove from microwave. Stir. Let cool at room temperature 2 minutes. Add pecans, mix well. Put a teaspoon of mixture on center of each cracker. Bake 7 minutes on center oven rack. Use pot holder and carefully remove from oven. Let cool 3 minutes. Remove from baking pan with metal turner. Place on wire rack to cool completely.

 

Peanut Butter-Honey Sandwich

 

2 slices of bread
2 tablespoons of peanut butter
1 tablespoon of honey
Sprinkle of cinnamon

Mix peanut butter and honey in a cup. Spread peanut butter and honey mix on one slice of bread. Sprinkle peanut butter and honey slice with cinnamon. Sandwich the 2 pieces of bread together.

 

Peanut Butter Smoothie

2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/4 cup frozen lowfat vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup skim milk
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup

Put all ingredients in a blender. Put top on blender. Mix for thirty seconds. Pour into a glass.

 

Fruit & Cheese Kabobs

cheese sticks
grapes
apples
wooden picks

Unwrap cheese sticks and place on cutting board. Cut each cheese stick into 6 equal pieces. Carefully cut apple in half. Remove core. Cut into cubes. Put wooden picks through a grape, then cheese cube, then apple cube. Place kabobs on plate to serve or stick in a whole apple.

 

Fruity Peanut Butter English Muffin

2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 English muffin
1 large strawberry, sliced
Sprinkle of brown sugar
Sprinkle of cinnamon

Spread peanut butter on muffin. Put strawberry slices on top of peanut butter. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Bake in a 425 degree oven about 10 minutes until lightly browned.

 

Apple Smoothie

1 apple
1 peeled banana
1/4 C. milk
3 ice cubes

Peel and core apple. Peel banana. Blend all ingredients in blender.

 

Apple Surprise

1 apple
applesauce

Begin by having an adult cut the top of the apple off as if you were getting ready to clean out a pumpkin. Scoop out the apple leaving nothing inside. Fill the apple with applesauce. Put the top back on and let the kids open it up to see what is inside. This is a snack that they will enjoy!

 

Yogurt Fruit Parfait

1 conatiner of plain or vanilla flavored yogurt (8 ounces)
granola cereal
3 or 4 of the following fruits: apple chunks, peach slices, blueberries, kiwifruit, strawberries, banana slices, grapes
2 paper cups or small glasses (8 ounces)

Put 2 spoonfuls of yogurt into each paper cup or glass. Sprinkle a spoonful of granola over the yogurt. Put 2 spoonfuls of fruit over the granola. Put 2 spoonfuls of yogurt over fruit. Sprinkle a little granola on top.

 

Rolled Chicken Sandwiches

soft tortilla shells
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 lb. bacon
1 tomato
lettuce
6 oz. cheddar cheese
1 bottle ranch dressing

Cook the chicken and cut into small pieces. Cook bacon till crisp and crumble. Chop tomato small, and shred some lettuce, and the cheese. Mix all together in a bowl and add ranch dressing. Spoon some of mixture onto tortilla shell and roll up. Makes about 12 of the smaller sized shells.

 

Kid's Yummy Meatballs

1 tablespoon butter
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped onion
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed chicken and rice soup
1/2 cup water
1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1/8 cup milk
2 slices bread

Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute green pepper and onion for 5 minutes, or until tender. Stir in the tomato soup, chicken & rice soup and the water and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, combine the ground beef, egg and milk. Break the bread into very small pieces and add to the bowl. Mix together well. Shape the meat mixture into meatballs and drop them into the soup mixture. Continue to simmer over low heat, uncovered, for 45 to 60 minutes. Stir occasionally, but be very careful not to break the meatballs.

 

Blueberry Cobbler

1/2 cup butter
2 cups self-rising flour
2 cups white sugar

2 cups milk
3 1/2 cups blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Once oven temperature is reached melt butter in a 9x13 inch baking pan. In a medium bowl stir together the flour, sugar and milk; batter will be slightly lumpy. Pour mixture on top of melted butter in baking pan. Do not mix butter and mixture together. Drop blueberries into batter; if more crust is desired add less blueberries. Bake in preheated oven for one hour or until golden brown.
