I am a recently separated veteran. I have been lied to by the navy and DFAS on my final pay. I am entitled to separation pay, leave I sold back, and The days I worked in January 1-7. It is now Feburary 18 and I have getting the run around from everybody I have talked to. I served 10 years in the Navy. I have tremendous respect for the military and service men and women. I do not think it is respectful to me or any other service member to have to go through this nightmare I am going through to receive a final pay check. My family and I were counting on my final pay to help pay bills and our mortgage until I find employment. I burned through most of our savings paying bills and medical expenses for my son. When I stated my problems with DFAS over the phone they didn't seem to really care. I have recently began to feel that I am just another number to the government and a veteran that doesn't matter. I have heard other horror stories about how service members are treated and I do not think it is fair. I volunteered my service for 10 years and it upsets me to know that my final paycheck could be held for multiple months. I thank you for yours service to South Carolina and I greatly appreciate you hearing my voice on this issue. Sincerely, Drew Etheredge 864-505-3650 DFAS, I recently was involuntary separated from the navy 20150107. I was told my separation pay, leave I sold back, and the days I worked from January 1 - 7 would be deposited to my account within 15 business day. I understand that I owed a debt for my re enlistment bonus. I was told by my separation clerk at psd that the bonus would be deducted from my final paycheck and I would be given the remaining balance. I called my psd to see if they could help because more than 40 days have passed and I have recieved no final pay yet. I then called DFAS in Cleveland. They stated the audit could take 30 to 45 days. I called back a week later. I was then told it could take up to 120 days. I do not know what the truth is. I called a third time. They told me I had a debt which I knew about and to call DFAS Indianapolis. They were not showing anything under my social security number. I was then told to fill this form out. I do not think this is a respectful way to treat service members by making there final pay a nightmare. I would greatly appreciate it if you could please deduct the debt I owe to the government and please give me the remaning balance that is left. I am currently still looking for employment and have burned through most of my savings paying bills and my mortgage. I could really use my final pay. It angers me that I have been lied to multiple times about the process for receiving my final pay. I was honest with the NAVY it would be nice if the NAVY and the government could be honest with me. Thank you Sincerely, Drew Etheredge
