2001 LEGAL NOTICE
NOMINATING MEETINGS FOR CANDIDATES TO FILL VACANCIES ON THE SC BEEF
BOARD
Pursuant to the provisions of the "Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act" and the "Marketing Order for South Carolina Beef," NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the terms of office of DISTRICT I: John W. Mayfield, Gaffney, SC, Richard Taylor, Honea Path, SC, DISTRICT IV: Eddy Ellison, Greenwood, SC, DISTRICT VI: James V. Sease, Ehrhardt, SC, members of the South Carolina Beef Board, expire on June 30, 2001, and, therefore, the four vacancies shall occur at that time.
The Commission shall call for nominations for said vacancies at nominating meetings at the times, places, and dates hereafter set forth:
District 1 - 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., May 14, 2001, Spartanburg TEC, Benjamin Snoddy Conference Room in the Ledbetter Administration Building, I-85 and New Cut Road, Spartanburg, SC
District 4 – 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.., May 14, 2001, Greenwood County Court House, 528 Monument St., Room 200, Greenwood, SC
District 6 –2:00 - 3:00 p.m., May 15, 2001, Barnwell County Clemson Extension Office, Pechmann Street, Barnwell, SC
To qualify, a candidate must be a resident of South Carolina over the age of 25 years, having been engaged in producing beef within the State of South Carolina for a period of five years, and during that period, having derived a substantial portion of his income therefrom.
District 1 includes the Counties of Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, and Union.
District 2 includes the Counties of Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster and York.
District 3 includes the Counties of Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg.
District 4 includes the Counties of Abbeville, Aiken, Edgefield, Greenwood, Newberry, McCormick and Saluda.
District 5 includes the Counties of Calhoun, Clarendon, Lee, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland and Sumter.
District 6 includes the Counties of Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper.
Oral nominations for qualified candidates may be made at the nominating meeting and accepted by the Commission. All oral nominations for Board vacancies must be accompanied by a second to be considered for election. Nominations may also be made within five (5) days after said meeting by written petition filed with the Commission and signed by not less than five (5) affected producers entitled to participate in such meeting. The terms of office of the members elected and/or appointed to fill said vacancies shall be three (3) years.
