The patient has ADHD and has been on Adderall XR 20 mg bid for many years. She works as a baker in the early morning and has graduate school classes at night. She has required a twice a day dosing to help her throughout her long day. This is not uncommon in adults or children with ADHD. BCBC/Bluechoice denied the medication because of quantity limits and it referenced Governor Haley's Prescription Abuse Guidelines stating that BCBS could not approve it because of the guidelines. I have read the guidelines, have done CME on the guidelines and use SCRIPTS daily. I feel BCBS is misrepresenting the guidelines so that they do not have to pay for medication for adult ADHD. When I read the guidelines I read that the meds can be given if medically necessary and that third party payers are encouraged to control opioids not stimulants. I feel that BCBS is turing a wonderful program into something for their own gain. I am not sure the Governor can do anything but certainly felt she should know what BCBS is doing. I can forward the letter to you. Please email me at ejeffords@bellsouth.net for any questions. Thank you for your time Sincerely, Elizabeth Jeffords
