Clark files for Feb 3 SC
Primary |
(Columbia-AP) -- More than 100 supporters
cheered today as retired Army General Wesley Clark turned over 4,000
signatures to state Democratic Party leaders to get his name on the
February 3rd presidential primary ballot.
South Carolina
party Chairman Joe Erwin said Clark was the first candidate to
register in person at party headquarters in Columbia.
Clark
spent the day campaigning in the state with former South Carolina
Governor Jim Hodges, New York Democratic Congressman Charlie Rangel
and former ambassador Andrew Young.
The crowd at Democratic
Party headquarters was a mix of black and white, old and young and
cheered everything Clark had to say.
Clark saved all his
venom for President Bush and never mentioned any of his eight
Democratic opponents.
Tomorrow, Clark and Rangel were to
continue the campaign in Florence, where Clark would serve meals at
the Manna House.
He was scheduled to return to Columbia for
a Young Democrats event Monday night. |
