I have worked 28 years consecutively in our education system and have always taught our children that all you have to do is be honest and do the right thing and people will honor and recognize you for that. I am unhappy with my state and am quite embarrassed to be from South Carolina. I have been fighting since I lost everything in the August 31, 2015 King Tide Flooding at 6520 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, SC 29418. I got turned down by FEMA, the Emergency Management System and Small Business Loans. Wow! What a let down. I am not trying to play the system. I worked for a living and am a recent retiree. I reached out to the state in accordance to YOUR executive order to provide payment for days work missed due to the flooding in October, 2015. I got turned down from SC Workforce Unemployment time and time again. I ended up filing an appeal after receiving the debit card set up with Bank of America, a pin number and 3 statements showing my weekly benefit. I was out of work along with the Dorchester Co School District Two. I am now a part time worker and your disaster unemployment order came into existence. All of us at my job for one reason or another was turned down. After my appeal, I found out that i was indeed eligible, but I receive my retirement pension. "HUH" I said. What does that have to do with it. They went further to explain that my pension is more than what i am seeking so they would just have deducted that. Does that mean that I would have to pay for my week missed out of my money? What the hell? I still disagree with me not getting my work benefits just because i get a pension. I am outraged and until things like this can be rectified, it will not be a great day in South Carolina for me! Sheila Samuel
