N. Augusta Fishing Team sweeps recent Lake Murray tournament
April 4th may have started out on the chilly side on Lake Murray, but the temperatures soon warmed up. Apparently the weather suited the North August Fishing Team (composed of middle and high school students) as they swept the Saluda High School anglers with a decisive team total of 41.33 pounds to 11.33 pounds for the tournament.
North Augusta used their knowledge of various baits from flukes to spooks, jigs and worms to battle through the occasional wind gust.
The top winning anglers (all from North Augusta) as follows:
- 1st - Grayson Brandt (6th grade) - 5 fish totaling 11.36 pound
- 2nd - Kyle Shreve (12th grade) - 5 fish totaling 10.13 pounds
- 3rd - Brad Wilson (6th grade) - 3 fish totaling 5.39 pounds
- 4th and Big Fish Prize (6th grade) - Francisco Bucio - 1 fish totaling 5.04 pounds
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) partnered with The Bass Federation to form Youth Bass Fishing League Clubs at middle and high schools around South Carolina. It's more than just the thrill of reeling in the big one and enjoying time with friends, fishing club members also learn information about fisheries management, artificial lures, attractants and more.
Interested in forming a bass fishing club at your school and becoming a part of the Youth Bass Fishing League? All you need to do is get a minimum of six students (within the 11-18 year old range) with dues paid and you can have a Youth Bass Fishing League Club. You'll also need an adult at your school to help lead the Youth Bass Federation Club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings.
