Pastor Says Other Issues More Important

Two state lawmakers have filed bills to display the 10 Commandments in public buildings.

Greenville Sen. Mike Fair wants the commandments displayed at the Statehouse beside historical documents.

Florence Rep. Mary Coates wants the commandments allowed on any property belonging to the state, alongside historical documents.

Neither of the Republican lawmakers spelled out the historical documents in the bills they've filed to be considered by the General Assembly.

Fair said he thinks his measure will pass and withstand a legal challenge.

The House approved Coates' measure last year, but it was not considered by the Senate.

Hopkins Sen. Darrell Jackson is pastor of a Columbia church. He said lawmakers have other issues that are more important.
