It is encouraging to see citizens take such an active role in their government, and I value receiving your feedback. Every year, far too many South Carolinians lose their lives on our highways as a result of impaired drivers. As Governor, I have seen first-hand the heartbreak and misfortune that one irresponsible person can leave in their wake. It is my belief that one life lost to impaired driving is one too many, and I will continue to work with Chief Mark Keel of the State Law Enforcement Division and Director Leroy Smith of the Department of Public Safety to make South Carolina's highways and rural roads safer for all of our citizens. To date, our efforts have included improved officer visibility and presence, proactive enforcement through the "Sober or Slammer" and "Target Zero" programs, and my continued support of expanding the ignition interlock program to include severely impaired and repeat offenders. Again, thank you for your correspondence. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future with your questions, ideas, or concerns. God bless. My very best, Nikki R. Dear Mr. Baird,

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding individuals who drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol and the corresponding impact to public safety.

God bless.

My very best,

Nikki R. Haley
