Willing rd Saluda SC 29138 hanvin375@gmail.com 8035535774 8035535774 JUDI Civil liberties 173.189.8.233 As a citizen of the SC with no criminal background or malicious motives I must contact you concerning our deteriorating civil liberties in this state. The constitution is being quickly buried by laws, statues, & ordinances that serve no purpose other than to "imprison" the people of this great nation. These very laws would've shocked our Founding Fathers beyond belief. Founding Fathers who insured the people of the United States a safe haven from tyranny. However, it saddens myself & many others that these insurances have been "swept under the rug" under the disguise of safety. In particularly I am referencing those members in law enforcement who consistently tarnish those civil liberties for what seems to be, in no other terms punishment for exercising their constitutional rights. The very document those individuals in uniform swore to uphold & protect. This can be seen through the countless civil lawsuits brought against law enforcement agencies around this great state of ours. I can only speculate on the unknown amounts of tax payer dollars that are spent annually to compensate American citizens when their God given rights are knowingly & willingly & at times violently taken away from them. One can only presume in the untold millions. These funds can definitely be used in more productive areas. Let me state I do not favor lawlessness or anarchy of any sort. A society without order cannot stand. I also understand that obeying said laws can have positive outcomes, such as not be incarcerated. With that being stated, I must also point of that the US leads the world in incarcerations. In fact a study by Ohio State Univ. where it surveyed some 188 judges, attorneys, & certain members of law enforcement concluded that every year in the US some 10,000 Americans are wrongfully imprisoned. As well as a study conducted by our own Clemson Univ. that found the standard field sobriety test used by LE across this land is indeed faulty. My proposal is this: legislation to simply insure our God given rights are without a doubt safe & secured for future generations. This can be done by enacting accountability legislation on all LE agencies through out our state. Simply ensuring that all acts of behavior by LE agencies whether it is criminal or civil be punished in such a manner that would deter future civil liberties violation. No more lawsuits essentially, just fair incarcerations that would mirror those not in LE. I would most definitely like to add the end to the obvious deception used by LE in the US. Governor Haley, my wishes & concerns are not in anyway unreasonable. I understand proposed legislation being brought forward in every state concerning body cameras, & that is a victory no doubt. However, unfortunately it is just a very small band-aid on a very large bleeding wound. I speak from experience on civil liberties violations & LE deception. As a younger man growing up in Springdale (just west of Columbia). I was stopped by a police officer of said town for as he described it "looking tired," the officer never asked for a driver's license or registration or even proof of insurance. I committed no traffic violation, a clear abuse of my 4th Amend. right. It sadden me greatly. My wife can testify as well to LE misconduct. As a younger lady, she was sexually harassed by a police officer concerning a seat belt violation. It to, made her wary of LE. In conclusion, I once again must reiterate my point of repeated civil liberties violations, unnecessary LE deception, & wrongful imprisonment of the very people you represent. I must also state that I am not a member or in any way affiliated with any political organization other than being a registered republican. Thank you Governor Haley for your time & consideration of this most troublesome issue plaguing our glorious country. God Bless America and our great State of South Carolina
