Condon Announces Senate
Run |
(Charleston-AP) -- Former Attorney General
Charlie Condon says America's greatest challenge is winning the war
on terrorism, and he says it will take changes in national policy to
it.
Condon announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in a
formal speech at The Citadel on Tuesday.
Condon said he would
work to ensure that law enforcement, intelligence and immigration
databases are better integrated, to tighten policies on visitor
visas and to push for development of drugs to treat people injured
in biological attacks.
Condon is seeking the Republican
nomination for the seat held by Democratic U.S. Senator Ernest
"Fritz" Hollings. Hollings is retiring after more than three decades
in Washington.
At least three others are seeking the GOP
nomination -- Congressman Jim DeMint of Greenville, Myrtle Beach
Mayor Mark McBride and Lowcountry real estate developer Thomas
Ravenel.
Democrats seeking Hollings' seat include Columbia
Mayor Bob Coble, state Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum and
Camden native Marcus Belk. |
