(Columbia-AP) April 14, 2004 - Members of
South Carolina's congressional delegation want
to find a way to extend Interstate 73 in the
state. The legislators fielded questions from
business leaders Tuesday.
Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham told the
crowd of several hundred that building I-73
through the Pee Dee and Grand Strand would be a
boon for tourism.
All members of the delegation except US
Representative Jim Clyburn were in favor of
making the extension a toll road.
Clyburn, a Democrat, said people go to great
lengths to avoid having to pay to drive. Clyburn
said the interstate could be funded through a
combination of sources and built in a reasonable
amount of time.
