Correction: Hunley
story

CHARLESTON, S.C. - In an Oct. 12 story about the
Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley, The Associated Press reported
erroneously that the State Ethics Commission found that using tax
money to pay for preserving the sub does not violate its ethics
rules. The commission has never taken up the issue.
Commission attorney Cathy Hazelwood said her quote, "I certainly
think it's cozy but I don't see an outright violation," referred to
the relationship between a consultant whose company does marketing
work for the Hunley and the campaign of state Sen. Glenn McConnell,
chairman of the Hunley Commission. She was not commenting on how the
sub's bills are reviewed and sent to the Budget and Control Board
requesting
payment. |
