Concerns Over Catawba Bingo Plan
(Columbia-AP) -- Governor Mark Sanford is concerned the Catawba Indian Nation's proposed bingo hall in Orangeburg County could lead
the way for more gambling in the state.

The tribe is allowed to have a two bingo operations in the state as part of a federal and
state land claims settlement in 1993. The tribe already has a bingo hall in Rock Hill.

Congressman Jim Clyburn is pushing a bill that
would clear the way for a second one in Santee. But Sanford, as well as Congressmen Gresham Barrett and Jim DeMint, question whether the bill could make it easier for the Catawbas to get a
casino in the future.

Catawba Chief Gilbert Blue says the tribe is
not aiming for a casino.
