(Columbia-AP) April 23, 2005 - State Senator Tommy
Moore says he's running for governor next year.
The Clearwater Democrat announced his candidacy at
the South Carolina state convention during an 11:30am
speech.
In his message, Moore said, "I want to help you, and
I want to help all South Carolinians unite to make our
dreams a reality."
Florence Mayor Frank Willis says Moore called him
earlier this week to tell him he would make his
announcement during the convention. Willis is also
considering a gubernatorial bid.
If both run, that will set up a primary contest for
June 2006. The winner will face Republican Governor Mark
Sanford.
Democratic Party Chairman Joe Erwin has been
circulating a poll this weekend that shows Sanford
slipping in popularity.
