COLUMBIA, S.C. - Gov. Mark Sanford has called
on Carolina Panthers running back Stephen Davis to help get South
Carolinians healthy.
On Friday, Sanford named the South Carolina native physical
fitness ambassador to promote the importance of a better diet and
exercise.
The governor said he wants people to know a healthy lifestyle can
help cut health care costs.
"Stephen's willingness to do this is a huge boost to our efforts
to get South Carolinians to be just a bit more active," Sanford
said.
Davis, 30, who helped lead the Panthers to the Super Bowl in
February, also will join the Sanford on the first day of the
governor's three-day bike ride across the state next month.
"I've received a number of honors on the football field but to
have the governor of my home state ask me to help him lead this
effort ranks right up there with any of them," Davis said.
