Currently we have a patient in our ER, that has been boarded here for going on 29 days. Our social worker has spoken with numerous different agencies regarding placement for this patient, but we are told that there are no resources available, and nowhere for the patient to go. As I understand, this falls under DDSN. How is it that we have no resources for these patients. Instead of having a system that would support these mentally challenged patients (who cannot fend for themselves, have been neglected by their caretakers, or have no caretakers) for long term care, we instead have a system that leaves them stranded in an ER exam room for days on end. This is much like incarceration for them, and frankly it appalls me that patients who have done no wrong, are treated like this. I would like to hear from you about this matter, and sincerely hope that your office can focus it's efforts to provide the much-needed resources for these patients.
