The lack of funding for the DOD, has forced cuts to the point that our troops must operate without sufficient security, and protection. The troops are being overworked, due to there not being enough people to staff for daily needs. The services are so thinly staffed, that it is difficult to manage leave, and training. The newer enlistments are not being shown that there is a solid future, they have no incentive to stay beyond their initial enlistment agreement. They see Major's and Sergeant's getting cut out due to lack of funding, after their years of commitment, and dedication. This callous disregard does not inspire dedication, or aspirations of continued service to our country. Millions upon millions of our taxpayer's dollars are put into training, and building these men and women into the soldiers that we need. Then politicians rise to power and position that place them in control of the funding for the very core of the existence of the US DOD. These politicians are not taking their position of representation of the American people, and American servicemen and women seriously. They do not educate themselves on military strategy. They use their position to bargain for their self-serving interest. This should never be allowed to happen. Anyone that is in a position to refuse funding the DOD, should have to spend two weeks on a forward operating base. Then perhaps they will realize that it is impossible to defend anyone, without supplies, a full staff, and properly functioning equipment that is designed for the task at hand. Please do what you can to help direct attention to this egregious situation, and the failure to lead our armed forces with the strength and pride that we have the audacity to require of them. Sincerely, Patty A. Thaxton 2509 Plum St Parkersburg, WV 26101 bl_dia@yahoo.com 304-488-8231
