State Employees, Retirees Could Face Increased Insurance Costs
Deductibles Could Jump By $100
COLUMBIA, S.C. --
State workers and retirees could soon pay more for insurance and
benefits.
The state Budget and Control Board will consider a proposal Tuesday
where workers could see monthly health insurance rates increase by almost
25 percent.
Also, annual deductibles could rise by $100 to $450 and the price
of individual perscriptions would increase by $2.
A report on the employee insurance program says the state health
plan will cost nearly $133 million more to operate in January than it did
this year.
The state is putting almost $41 million more into the program. It's
relying on benefit changes and higher premiums to make up the difference.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bobby Harrell is one of the
Budget and Control Board's five members. The Charleston Republican said
with insurance costs going up, such increases are likely to continue.
