Product Recalled Nationwide
COLUMBIA---The South Carolina Department of Agriculture issues the following RECALL NOTIFICATION REPORT from the USDA-FOOD SAFETY AND INSPECTION SERVICE pertaining to a product that does not list anchovies as an ingredient on the label. Since some people may be extremely sensitive to certain foods, all food products must properly list the ingredients on the label.
PRODUCTS RECALLED: Ryan's Steaks, Buffet & Bakery Old-Fashioned Meatloaf.
PRODUCTION DATES/IDENTIFYING CODES: Produced prior to May 24, 2002. A date code number of "2143" or lower appears on the label, however, only that product that does not list anchovies in the ingredient statement is subject to recall. Also, the number "EST. 8334" appears in the USDA mark of inspection.
PROBLEM/REASON FOR RECALL: The product is incorrectly labeled (misbranded) by not declaring the anchovies (an allergen) contained in the product.
HOW/WHEN DISCOVERED: On May 29, 2002, FSIS personnel conducting a routine monitoring task at the establishment determined that anchovies were present in the product and were not declared on the product label.
