Richland Northeast High School (RNHS) in Columbia

Kelvin Grove State High School in Brisbane

Education is a priority of both Governor Hodges and Premier Beattie. As a result a number of school-based programs have been initiated.

1) Student Exchange Program between Kelvin Grove State High School in Brisbane and Richland

• In July 2001, Richland Northeast High School exchange group visited Brisbane. The group consisted of 19 students and 3 faculty.
• In December 2001, a Kelvin Grove High School exchange group consisting of 4 students and 2 teachers from the Kelvin Grove Fine Arts Department visited Columbia. The group from Kelvin Grove State High School visited the State House on December 11, attended the Governor's Office Christmas Drop-in and met with the First Lady Rachel Hodges.
• The group consisted of the following Kelvin Grove Faculty: Donella Downes - lead teacher, Angela Nolan - teacher. Students included: Clytie Ariel, Miranda Bizzell, Andrew O'Brien and Devon Peacock. RNHS Faculty attending were: Lynn Washington and Sharon Owens as well as Principal Ralph Schmidt. The RNHS parent involved was Susan Hogan.
• RNHS has developed a pen-pal (e-mail) relationship for students to participate in with Kelvin Grove as semesters and school years permit.

2) Satchel Ford Elementary School/Ironside State School Pen-Pals Program

Ironside State School

A pen-pal program via e-mail was developed with Ironside State School in Queensland. With the pen-pal relationship, students from each school's fourth grade corresponded and learned features about each state and country.
