Columbia, S. C. - Governor Jim Hodges on Thursday presented a check for $1,101, 000 from the South Carolina Cares fund to the American Red Cross.

Several donors and American Red Cross cabinet members and representatives joined the Governor for the presentation.

The Governor's Office will continue to accept donations for South Carolina Cares. Governor Hodges is encouraging schools around the state to collect donations from fans for the fund at sporting events this weekend.

South Carolina Cares is a fund created by Governor Hodges following the September 11 attacks. The fund allows South Carolinians to assist families and communities affected by these tragic events in New York and Washington, D.C.
