My opinion is based on compassion for fellow human beings that are fleeing a war and confidence in the refugee screening process to prevent dangerous individuals from entering the country. I think it is un-American to let fear of different religions, ethnicities, or countries of origin cloud our judgement about our moral obligation in regards to the refugee crisis. As a South Carolinian, I am embarrassed that our state is setting an example of xenophobia. The number of refugees entering America is relatively low compared to the huge media attention they are receiving, and it bothers me that people seeking safety in our country are being leveraged to make a political point.
