Alpert Executive Director Lead the Way 1400 Greene Street Suite 227 Columbia SC 29225 leadtheway@sc.edu SCHED UofSC Voter Registration Campaign 141.161.133.20 To whom it may concern, On behalf of the student body at the University of South Carolina, I would like to invite a representative of NOAA to speak at the University of South Carolina as part of our Lead the Way Voter Education Forum Series. Lead the Way is our student-run voter registration and education campaign, tasked with registering 5,000 students to vote. We are combining non-partisan registration drives with innovative outreach strategies and informative forum-style education events. We are partnering with the Hip Hop Caucus to reach minority communities, and with a wide array of nonprofits and groups to engage students in the electoral process. Our campaign is about re-igniting youth passion in the American democratic process by providing a wide array of opinions and viewpoints from high-level officials, activists, and cultural icons. We think this invitation will help further our goals by providing a valuable opportunity for our students to hear about one of the most pressing issues in modern times from people directly involved. Our overarching goal is to change the face of voter registration and to empower a generation of college students to be active in the democratic process by providing them access into the American body politic through a combination of culture and conversation. At present, we are scheduled to host a Women in Politics forum on September 22nd at 8pm in Columbia, SC. We would love to have the Governor present to speak about the role of gender as it affects society in the modern age. These forums are nonpartisan events intended to give students and community members an opportunity to learn about key issues in the 2016 elections outside of the campaign news cycle and directly from people involved in key policy decisions. If there is anything I can do to help facilitate such a visit, please let me know. All the best, Cory C. Alpert Executive Director, Lead the Way
