Subject: Week of February 11, 2008

Good Morning,

We are well into 2008 year and this is my first e-mail message to the leadership of this agency. As with any job, this job has cycles that are more manageable than others. I am currently in a very busy cycle. Key personnel losses and the beginning of the legislative session have combined to keep me tied down here in Columbia.

I have been able to visit institutions on several occasions, and I will continue to do so.

On the budget, our request has been presented to the house and the senate. If you get the opportunity to speak to any of your local legislators, please put in a good word for our budget request.

We have also proposed legislation that would protect the identities of our employees who participate in the executions and prevent professional licensing boards from taking action against the licenses of those who participate. We have several sponsors for this legislation and we are hopeful that it will pass this session.

Fair winds to Stan Burtt and Glen Franz and congratulations to Warden Bodison

Have a great week.
