As if there weren't real problems facing the Palmetto State, S.C. legislators will spend time again today talking about whether tattoos should be legal in the state.
Discussion on tattooing is set for a House subcommittee today after a bill legalizing tattooing met with opposition on the House floor and got sent back to the committee. The Senate has passed a bill that would allow tattooing under certain conditions and would regulate health practices.
It really doesn't matter whether we or legislators like or don't like the idea of the permanent body decorations. Surely S.C. residents are competent to make up their own minds on this issue. People who choose to tattoo shouldn't have to drive to another state to have it done legally.
Maybe it would be wiser for the House members to spend their time studying issues such as the state's budgeting woes and government restructuring.
