COLUMBIA, S.C. - Gov. Mark Sanford said "no
thanks" to Upstate automaker BMW's offer to use an X5 sport utility
vehicle.
Sanford said Monday the first family's Chevrolet Suburban suits
him just fine.
While he said he would "love to have such a wonderful car parked
out back," the vehicle could serve other purposes.
He suggested bolstering the Highway Patrol's fleet or using it as
a "Made in South Carolina" economic development tool for the
Commerce Department.
Those are "better uses for this car than running the first
family's errands," Sanford said.
The Highway Patrol already has some BMW patrol cars and
motorcycles, Department of Public Safety spokesman Sid Gaulden
said.
