I decided to rent my house in Summerville, SC due to the financial loss I would take if I sold it. During tax 2014 I paid the 4% tax however this year I am told that I have to pay 6% even though there is a law enacted to assist military with this. I was also told I missed the filing deadline of May. I never knew this law existed much less the filing deadline. Upon contacting my County Assessor's office, I was told there was a lot of military in the same situation and they were uninformed as well. The Assessor's offices informed me there is nothing they can do to assist us. Can we please get an extension to the end of the tax year to file this request and apply for the 4%. The increase of $2256.00 might not seem like much to some however to me this is huge to come up with unexpectedly. With a little more reach out to the military community the requirement of applying for the 4% could drastically reduce the number of military families affected like mine. Any consideration in this matter will be greatly appreciated. With Respect, MSgt Matthew Perkins
