SLED seizes video gaming machines

Five video gaming machines were seized from three businesses along St. Andrews Road Thursday, the State Law Enforcement Division said.

Thirteen other machines were taken from areas in the Upstate, said SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson.

The department also filed charges against the businesses’ alcohol license, which can lead to a $500 fine, said SLED Chief Robert Stewart.

The local businesses targeted Thursday were: Hemingway’s Saloon, 7467 St. Andrews Road; Carolina Wings, 7587 St. Andrews Road and Tony’s Party Shops, 6165 St. Andrews Road.

• More than $1 million in marijuana seized

Richland County narcotics officers seized more than $1 million in marijuana and arrested two men after a monthlong investigation, sheriff’s spokesman Joseph Pellicci said.

It was one of the top three or four marijuana seizures in the last few years, Pellicci said.

The Oct. 25 raid at 202 Curvewood Road netted 231 pounds of marijuana and $18,000 in cash. Christopher Wright, 27, and Winston Betty, 35, both of Columbia, were charged with trafficking marijuana, Pellicci said. Betty lived at the Curvewood Road residence, he said.
