She outlined a plan for teacher student loans to be paid for by the state for teachers that teach in rural and low income districts for eight years. I would like her to extend this policy to our states Special Education Teachers. As you know there is a shortage of Special Education Teachers and a high burn out rate as well. These teachers are more specialized than general education teachers. The State Teachers Loan does extend "rural" benefits to Special Education Teachers regardless of which district they teach in due to the high need for them. If they teach in a higher income district they can achieve loan forgiveness in five years vs three. Each year they teach a portion of their loan is forgiven. Please consider extending the same policy to our Special Education Teachers. A portion of their loan will be forgiven for each year they teach, totally paid for in eight years if they teach in a rural district and in ten years if they teach in a higher income district. I appreciate your consideration to this matter. Sincerely Robin M Johnston
