Haley Office of the Governor 1205 Pendleton Street Columbia, South Carolina 29201 Dear Governor: I am a concerned grandmother. I have a grandson, Brandon Summers, who lives with one of my daughters, Kimberly Ann McGrew, which is his aunt. My daughter, Brandon's mother, Fredda Summers, is a recovering drug addict and Brandon was living with her in an unsafe environment. Brandon begin living in a safe environment with his Aunt Kimberly Ann and her family in September, 2014. My understanding is Fredda continued to have Medicaid on Brandon until it expired and needed to be recertified in January, 2016. At that time, Fredda did not complete the Medicaid recertification paperwork. Kimberly Ann filed a new application for Medicaid for Brandon the beginning of January, 2016. It is now the middle of March and when Kimberly Ann calls to inquire on the status she is told, the application is pending even though all the paperwork has been received. Today, Kimberly Ann was told there is no one else she can talk to concerning expediting this application. Kimberly Ann has three children of her own and does not have the funds to pay for Brandon's medical expenses. Brandon needs to see the doctor so new prescriptions can be written for his health concerns. Brandon is a student at Summerville High School and lives in Dorchester County. I have no idea how long it takes to get the Medicaid application processed and get this teenager some medical attention but I was hoping your office could help expedite this process. I have not included any of Brandon's personal information such as social, date of birth, etc., in this letter. If your office can help, please contact me or Kimberly Ann for any personal information needed. I appreciate you reading this letter and anxiously await a response.
