WHEREAS, World AIDS Day is an international campaign held each year on the first day of December to raise awareness of the global impact of HIV/AIDS; and
WHEREAS, More than 1.2 million Americans are living with HIV or AIDS, and nearly one- fifth don't know they are infected; and 
WHEREAS, Almost 26,000 residents of South Carolina including approximately 200 children and teens are living with HIV and AIDS; and
WHEREAS,  with the theme, " Getting to Zero" , the 2015 observance of World AIDs Day calls attention to the importance of working together to increase prevention and treatment in order to win the fight against this global pandemic. 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nikki R. Haley, Governor of the Great State of South Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 1, 2015 as 
WORLD AIDS DAY
throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to learn more about HIV/AIDS,  take action to protect their health and the health of others, treat HIV/AIDS patients with fairness and understanding and remember those who have lost their lives to this disease.
