I was a Deputy Sheriff at the time. June 2015 I was told my Afro was not neat and presentable and I had to change it. Although I did not agree I changed my hair do to please the Sheriff. The very next day I came into work with the same hair do just pulled back in a ponytail. I was counseled by Major Daily on my afro and given a written warning; I was also told that my hair was a lot better in the ponytail. One month later I contacted by Sgt Tiller informing me that my hair is still not good enough and that if I return to work like that again I will be sent home for something else. This hair do a month later was same hair do I wore and got approval to wear by Major Daily. I filed an EEOC charge against the Sheriff Office 7-30-15. One month later I was terminated from my duties as a Deputy Sheriff with Sumter County Sheriff Office. I have supporting documents showing the harassment I received from the Sheriff Office about hair ex. Text messages to and from the Major, voice recordings with the Major approving my hair back in June. I believe the Sheriff was notified by EEOC, to retaliate against me the Office found a bogus reason the terminate me. In Law Enforcement we have to worry about the dangers of the streets and in today's world the nation is outraged at Law Enforcement and is now killing us. I had to worry about someone killing me in the streets and worry my own agency creating the hostile environment they did. In the end I'm left with five kids and husbands and a huge doctor bill from undergoing stress test and echo's for my heart due to work related stress as well as taking mental medications to help level my stress all brought on by the Sheriff's Office with no job and no medical to help fund my medical issues. I'm seeking some help and justice from your office as no citizen/Officer of the law should have to go through the pain and suffering I have gone through with this office. Please contact me back I'm searching desperately for help. I have sent the same information to Congressman Mick Mulvaney. Sumter County Sheriff's Office Terminated my employment almost two months after my EEOC claim this was a very unethical act and I'm ashamed to say that I ever took an oath with the Sheriff Office to protect my community under the orders of Sheriff Anthony Dennis.
