A York
County grand jury indicted Coroner Doug McKown Thursday on charges
of distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a
controlled substance and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.
McKown and his girlfriend, Erin Jenkins, turned themselves in to
authorities May 17 on drug charges. Police say the arrest came after
more than two years of investigation.
McKown, who has served as coroner for more than a decade, serves
a four-year term that expires in 2008. He is paid $57,800 a year.
Immediately after the arrest, McKown placed himself on paid
administrative leave, pending the case’s outcome.
