Lawmakers Join Governor's Plan
(Columbia-AP) -- Governor Mark Sanford's plan to reduce the state's seven percent income tax rate got a boost.

Twenty-four of 27 Senate Republicans have signed onto a plan that would reduce the income tax rate for the top wage-earners in the state.

The plan would reduce the top income tax rate to 4.75 percent.

Those legislators plan to take a bill that cleared the House Wednesday and insert a Senate version of the income tax plan.

That helps the measure move to the top of the Senate calendar for consideration and it could come up for debate as early as next Tuesday.

Sanford says he appreciates the effort.
